What is collected

There is no account system, no comment system, no newsletter and no payment. Nothing on this site asks who you are in order to read it, and no page is gated.

Two things do collect something, and they are the next two sections.

Analytics

This site runs Google Analytics 4. It records that a page was viewed, roughly where in the world the request came from, and which site or search you arrived from. It is used for one thing: seeing which of these pages people actually read, which is what decides what gets extended next.

Two settings are switched off deliberately rather than left at their defaults:

• Google signals, which is what would let a visit here be joined to Google's cross-site advertising identifiers.
• Ad personalisation signals, which is what would let the data feed advertising targeting.

With both off this is first-party measurement and nothing is shared for cross-context behavioural advertising. That is a deliberate legal position as well as a technical one: it is why this site does not show you a consent banner or a "do not sell my personal information" link, because there is no such sharing to opt out of. If either setting were ever turned back on, that would stop being true and this page would have to change first.

Nothing is sold, and no data from this site is passed to any advertising network, data broker or other site in the same portfolio.

The contact form

The contact form collects what you type into it: an email address, optionally a name, a subject, your message, and which page you were on when you opened it. That is sent as a single email to one internal address through SendGrid, this site's transactional mail provider.

It is not stored on this site. There is no database behind the form, no ticketing system and no log of submissions. Your address is used to reply to you and for nothing else; it is not added to any list, because there is no list. The message lives in a mailbox exactly as long as an ordinary email does, and you can ask for it to be deleted.

Cookies

This site sets no cookies of its own. Google Analytics sets its own first-party cookies (named _ga and similar) to tell a returning browser from a new one. Blocking them, or using any of the common blockers, costs you nothing here: every page works identically without them.

No local storage and no session storage is used. The calculators run entirely in your browser and neither transmit nor retain the numbers you type into them; close the tab and they are gone.

What the host logs

The site is served by a commercial hosting provider, and like every web server on the internet theirs records the requests it receives: an IP address, a timestamp, the path requested, the user agent and the referring page. Those logs exist for operational reasons - capacity, abuse and debugging - and are held by the host under its own retention policy. The publisher of this site does not use them to identify individuals and does not combine them with anything else.

Fonts and images

The three typefaces are served from this site's own domain, not from a font CDN, so loading a page here does not tell a third party that you did. Product photographs on the two commercial pages are served by Amazon from its own image host: displaying one means your browser requests a file from Amazon and Amazon's servers see that request. Those images load lazily and only appear on equipment and the larder.

Outbound links

Links to Amazon carry an affiliate tag. Following one tells Amazon that the visit came from this site, and if you buy something Amazon reports an aggregated commission to the account that owns the tag. That report contains no information identifying you. This site never learns who you are, what you looked at or what you bought. The commercial arrangement is set out in full on disclosures.

Links to sources - the FAO, the USDA, the eCFR, Europe PMC, NCBI, Wikipedia - are ordinary links with no tag and no tracking parameter attached.

Children

This site is a technical reference and is not directed at children. It knowingly collects no personal information from anyone under 13, and the only field anywhere on it that asks for personal information is the email box on the contact form.

Your rights

Data protection law gives people rights of access, correction, deletion and portability over personal data held about them. In practice there is very little here to exercise them against: the analytics data is not tied to a name and cannot be matched back to you by this site, and the only personal data the publisher holds is whatever you chose to write in a message to it.

If you have written in and want that message deleted, ask through the same form, choosing Privacy request, and it will be done. Requests about server logs are a matter for the hosting provider rather than the publisher, and requests about analytics data are best handled by blocking the script, which this site will never try to detect or work around.

Changes

This page is updated before a change ships, not after. It said so when the site carried no analytics and no form, and adding both is what triggered this revision: the review date above moved on the same commit that introduced them. There is no version of this site that quietly starts tracking people.
